What is Autoblog?

An autoblog is a blog with content that is automatically gathered and compiled from RSSfeeds. Autoblogging software does most of the work. The blog owner may not do much beyond selecting the specific feeds, determining schedules and selecting a few options.
The purpose of an autoblog is to generate search engine ad revenue. Because a single autoblog is not very lucrative, however, autoblog owners typically create multiple blogs on niche topics.
Autoblogging software provides the option to include a link back to the original content. Copying excerpts of original content, with attribution and a link back, is generally consideredfair use. However, copying entire articles is illegal unless the content is in the public domain.
To get around copyright issues and avoid search engine penalization for duplicate content, autoblogging software includes the option to edit content. The software also usually includes a translation tool that can be used to translate foreign content. The feature is more often used, however, to alter content, a practice sometimes referred to as content spinning. The usual method is to translate content from the original language to a different one and then back again. The result will differ from the original content but will typically have odd phrasing and grammar and may not make much sense. Separate content spinning software is also available that has much the same effect.
Autoblogging and other approaches to making money with minimal effort are sometimes referred to as passive income generation.
